Have you ever left valuable items, such as confidential documents, portable gadgets and money in a public transport? How did that play out for you? In most situations, it ends in tears for the passengers or persons involved. One is forced to consider the items lost because the victim may feel the driver is unlikely to return them, the minute one realizes what he has in his possession. The Director of Legal Services at GBC, Kwame Waja was recently caught up in such unfortunate circumstances. Luckily, the taxi driver involved had a good heart and returned the money and the documents, of which he was rewarded. Based on this experience, GBC News shines the light on the taxi driver, Samuel Gyamfi and similar gestures in this Special Report by Nathaniel Nartey.
The unlikeliest of events occurred when a taxi driver returned confidential documents and money left in his car by the Director of Legal Services at GBC Kwame Waja. It is very impressive to note that the taxi driver, Samuel Gyamfi who is also a student in a training college drove back to Kasoa from Achimota overhead to return the money and documents to Mr. Waja upon realising the unsuspecting luggage in his car. This act of selflessness was condemned by Mr. Gyamfi’s colleague taxi drivers who urged him to keep the booty of documents and GHC4,000 left in the car. This is because taxi drivers operated with an unwritten rule that any item left in their car by passengers automatically belonged to them, so long as they did not steal the item /items. Mr. Gyamfi explained to GBC News why he decided to ignore his colleagues and return the items, largely influenced by the need to remain truthful.
Mr. Waja was speechless in his reaction but was full of praise for the taxi driver.
On the evidence of such a heart-warming event, GBC News sought the views of a cross section of the public on whether they had encountered people with such a good heart recently in society.
There are more such stories of kind hearted gestures even in these times of need and distress.
GBC News joins in shining the light on all the good people in Ghana beyond, and encourages others to emulate such God-fearing attitudes to make Ghana and the world, a better place.
