The festival of Nine Lessons and Carols was first introduced in the Church to bring a more imaginative approach to worship in commemorating the birth of Christ. The purpose was to keep men out of Pubs on Christmas Eve to get them prepared and reflect on the essence of Christmas.

The Nine Lessons taken from the Bible gives us a reflection on the fall of man, God’s blessings for Abraham and his descendants, the promise of a Messiah and the peace he gives to humankind, the Annunciation, the birth of Christ, the praise by the shepherds, the worship by the Magi, and finally, the portrayal of Jesus as the light of the world.

The Religious Broadcasts Department of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, GBC per its mandate through programming, acts as a bridge between the GBC and the Ghanaian Religious Community made up of different religious faiths, has been informing and educating the viewing and listening publics on religious feasts and festivals including the Christian festival of Nine Lessons and Carols in December every year.

This year’s festival is a collaboration between GBC and the Garrison Methodist Presbyterian Church at Burma Camp.

The programme which is slated for the 16th of December 2021 will hit the air waves at 4.pm.

They gave highlights on the upcoming programme.
