Since President Akufo-Addo government took office, the day has been reverted as the first president’s birthday.

This is as a result of the New Public Holiday Act, 2018 passed by parliament to amend the Public Holiday Act, 2001.

It replaces three public holidays, including 21 September, and introduced two new holidays, 7 January and 4 August which are observed as Constitution Day and Founders’ Day respectively.
