Lack of access to healthcare facilities—the woes of pregnant women

Lack of vehicular transport is suppressing the potential positive impact of CHPS Compounds on maternal and child health in rural areas of Ghana. Poor road network and endemic poverty in rural areas make provision of alternative transport services for healthcare difficult. As a result, pregnant women use risky methods such as tricycles and motorbikes to access healthcare services. On his way to Yendi from Bimbilla, GBC’s Abdul Hayi Moomen came across a woman in labour who was being transported to the hospital on a motorbike and has come through with this report.
