The Chiefs and people of Avatime Biapka in the Ho West District of the Volta region are calling for investment into the tourism potential in the area. According to them, Avatime Biakpa has a lot in terms of tourism to showcase to the world to rake in the needed revenue for the country, the region and the Community in particular.
However, the development and patronage of such sites is not encouraging.
The people made the appeal during a tour to the Leopard Cave, one of the tourism potentials in the Community.
The tour formed part of a drive by the Management of Volta Star Radio of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation to highlight and help to promote the patronage of local tourism in the Volta region.

The maiden edition of the project saw staff of the Corporation in the region visit Avatime Biakpa Community located in the Ho West District of the Volta region.
Avatime biakpa is one of the seven Avatime Communities in the Ho West District of the Volta Region.
The Community is thus located on a mountain, but at the same time in a valley near Avatime Amedzofe, the highest human settlement Community in Ghana.
After a brief reception by Chiefs and Elders of the Community, it was time for people to show off their energy level with a hike to the mountain side to visit one of the numerous tourism potentials in the Community, the Leopard Cave.
The Cave adventure lasts between 30-45 minutes on foot and basically involves climbing up a mountain initially.
Enthusiastic children, as well as the elderly all, joined staff of GBC to embark on the energy zapping adventure.
Two rest seats have been provided for those who might want to replenish their energy before continuing.
At the peak of the mountain is a flat land that presents one with a stunning bird’s eye view of some Avatime Communities as well as the Volta Lake from afar.
One is required to descend the mountain with assistive ropes to get to the Cave.
According to oral history, the Cave was once occupied by a Leopard that was terrorizing the people and so the people decided to kill it.
The animal took one life before it died.
GBCNews learnt that after killing the Leopard, the Cave used to serve as a hideout especially for women and kids during war times in the past.
People could not help but take memorable pictures after making it to the beautiful cave. It is the wish and desire of the Chiefs and people of Avatime Biakpa to have this site well developed to create jobs and rake in the need revenue for the Community the region and the country at large.
Descending from the mountain requires one to hold anything at reach for steadier balance until one gets to the foot of the mountain.

Do the people of Avatime Biakpa really call this cave ‘Leopard cave’? I strongly doubt it. But again, this is the result of mis-education we hurriedly foisted on ourselves since independence, where we appreciate foreign things and names over our own. This is not promoting tourism, nor self-worth, nor self-reliance, but pawns in the global market. Get the local name and project it.
