25-year-old Grace Amezando and her two daughters were sleeping in their usual abode, a kiosk at Ashongmang Estate in Accra, when she was attacked with acid.
Out of pain, Grace woke up to see the corrosive substance on her face and some parts of her body.
To her utmost dismay, Bright Boso, her ex-lover was behind the inhumane act after confessing to Grace, Bright was arrested, tried and jailed for ten years with hard labor.
Since then, her life has changed for the worse and she is struggling to raise 60,000 cedis to undergo surgery which includes skin reconstruction and grafts.
Sharing her story with GBC News’ Oforiwa Darko, Grace said that her disfigurement has brought in its wake stigma making it difficult for her to socialize with friends and family.
“I have become incapacitated and cannot pay for my medical bills including an urgent surgery, let alone take care of her children. There is no financial support to undergo corrective surgery”, Grace added.
Grace Amezando has three children. Two with her boyfriend, the perpetrator of the heinous crime. She had her first born at age 15 and then became a school dropout.
According to Grace, her current stage in life is affecting her wellbeing. She needs GHC60,000 for corrective surgery, GHC6,000 of this urgently to save her eyesight.
