Coordinator of AbibiNsroma Foundation, Robert Amiteye, recently educated Assembly members at the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, TMA, on energy transition, focusing on shifting from fossil fuels to renewable energy.

This initiative aimed to inform and gather feedback from local legislators, recognizing the critical need for transition in industrial cities like Tema, which hosts two oil refineries vital to Ghana’s economy.

According to Mr Amiteye, Tema’s refineries significantly contribute to Ghana’s gross domestic product, but unstable global oil prices and exchange rates make imported refined oil costly for industries. This has sparked concerns about availability, accessibility, and affordability of renewable energy technologies to meet societal needs.

Participants at the meeting emphasized the importance of addressing these challenges and prioritizing clean green energy for production and consumption.

The Assembly Members acknowledged that transitioning to renewable energy aligns with Tema’s economic growth interests.
