The Chief Justice, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, has cautioned court staff against the practice of preparing legal documents for court users as they do not have the legal authority or are not lawyers for the job.
Justice Torkornoo, emphasized that, court officials who pretend to know how to prepare these legal processes, cause unwanted legal problems for unsuspecting Court users, and warned them to desist from such action or face severe disciplinary actions.
She was Speaking during a Community Sensitisation Programme, and inauguration of a Court Complex at Atebubu in the Bono East Region. At the program, the Chief Justice, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, expressed worry over court officials preparing petitions, applications, affidavits, statutory declarations although they do not have the needed qualifications to do so.
Justice Torkornoo was empathetic about her quest, to rid the Judicial Service of, corrupt staff, who only look to line their pockets on the back of ignorant court users and giving the Service a bad reputation.
The Chief Justice, also educated the public on the work of the Judiciary, the law , and the rights available to those who seek the legal assistance.
The new court complex, made up of a Circuit and District Magistrates Court, was constructed on an internally generated fund by the Atebubu-Amantin, municipal Assembly. It is equipped with offices and every needed facilities needed for the courts.
The Chief Executive of the Atebubu-Amantin Municipal Assembly, Edward Owusu, said the twin Court, would enhance justice delivery and promote socio-economic development in the municipality and its environs.
Prior to the construction of the Court complex, persons who needed Court services, had to travel to neighboring towns such as Wenchi or Sunyani, to access the Court, while the police also faced challenges transporting suspects out of the municipality for trial.
Mr. Kwame Danso, said the Court, will also benefit districts next to Atebubu-Amantin.
