A visit to the scene of the fire outbreak on Monday morning revealed the level of devastation caused by the inferno.

The fire outbreak occurred at about 5.30 am last Friday at Blue Light area at Adum but the lack of access to the actual scene by fire firefighters led to a wide spread of it to other areas within the busy commercial centre.

In the end, virtually every store within the three adjoining storey buildings within the vicinity has been affected with the destruction of property estimated at millions of Ghana Cedis lost.

Not even the temporary metal containers were spared the destruction with the victims now counting their losses.

At the time of the visit, staff of every state institution concerned with the disaster were on site doing their part to restore the scene to normalcy.

They included NADMO, Military, Police, KMA and Fire Service with many of the victims traders watching remnants of their destroyed wares and wondering their fate following declaration of the once vibrant and brisk trading area as a security zone hence barricaded thereby keeping them at bay from re-entry.

Speaking to GBCNews, victims of the inferno welcomed the Regional Coordinating Council’s decision to create access routes to the trading area to facilitate provision of emergency services should there be any need against in future.

Meanwhile, the fire incident has exposed the unbearable insanitary condition within the affected area opposite the Central Market while scavengers and scrap dealers also continue to take undue advantage of the disaster as the victims also count their losses.
