President Akufo-Addo has urged the Judicial arm of government to be sensitive to undue delays that project the image of Ghana as a destination where litigation takes too long. This, he said, affects the attractiveness of the country as an investment destination.
The President was speaking at the Jubilee House when he swore into office two Justices of the High Court. He asked the two Justices to demonstrate integrity and sound knowledge of the law.
The two new Justices, Justice Mrs Dorothy Ayodele Kingsley-Nyinah and Justice Mrs Ama Sefenya Ayittey, swore the Oaths of Secrecy, office and Allegiance.
President Akufo-Addo said the two are fit and qualified for the position of Justices of the High Court.
He noted that they have the impartiality of mind and independence of spirit necessary to hold the high office. The President said it is essential for the Justices of the High Court to be honest, possess integrity, and have sound knowledge of the law.
He tasked them to ensure that their judgments and decisions were properly motivated. President Akufo-Addo urged them not to delay the delivery of Justice. He urged them to take full advantage of the e-justice system in order to expedite the conduct of cases and enhance the management of cases before the court.
He said the government has tackled to a large extent the inadequate number of courts in various parts of the country, resulting in citizens travelling longer hours to gain access to court. Through the district assembly common fund, the government has constructed 120 courts with accompanying accommodation for Judges to help address the problems of inadequate court infrastructure.
Justice Mrs Dorothy Ayodele Kingsley-Nyinah, on behalf of her colleague, thanked the President for the confidence reposed in them.
They were later presented with the instrument of appointment. The Chief Justice, Justice Torkornoo, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, the Chief of Staff at the Office of the President, Akosua Frema Opare, were all present at the swearing-in ceremony.
