The Chief Executive Officer of AT Ghana (formerly AirtelTigo), Leo Skarlatos, has stressed the importance of young women prioritizing education in Technology and ICT.
Mr Leo Skarlatos affirmed that AT Ghana is committed to providing a platform for young girls to engage with and benefit from the ICT sector as the government continues to adopt digital solutions for national growth and development.
In line with this commitment, AT Ghana has pledged ongoing support for empowering young women in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) through the Girls in ICT initiative.
Mr. Skarlatos stated, “In today’s rapidly evolving digital world, it is crucial that we bridge the gender gap and provide equal opportunities for all. The Girls in ICT project is designed to inspire and equip young women with the skills and confidence needed to pursue careers in technology.”
He emphasized that by fostering an inclusive environment and offering mentorship, training, and resources, AT Ghana aims to break down barriers and create a more diverse and innovative ICT sector for young girls in Ghana. AT Ghana believes that diversity drives innovation and is dedicated to supporting the next generation of female leaders.
Mr. Skarlatos made these remarks during a visit by the Girls in ICT programme to AT Ghana.
The event welcomed 100 Junior High School students from the Savannah, Northern, and Eastern Regions.
This year’s theme, “Leadership,” focused on nurturing the next generation of female leaders in technology.
During the event, Evelyn Sam, Chief Supply Chain Officer at AT Ghana, shared her personal journey to becoming a senior leader in the company. She encouraged the students, saying, “My journey has not been easy, but with determination and a passion for learning, I was able to achieve my goals.” She urged the young girls to take ICT-related courses seriously, as these would equip them with essential skills for the future.
Other speakers from AT Ghana, including Acting Chief Finance Officer Ama Edjah and Director of Legal and Regulatory Affairs Cynthia Degbor Akafia, highlighted the significance of ICT and provided practical steps for the students to enhance their knowledge in the field. The sessions were both informative and interactive, allowing the students to engage directly with industry professionals.
The students were introduced to various exercises, including digitalization, networks, data analytics, and cybersecurity. Both the students and their teachers expressed deep gratitude and appreciation to the AT Ghana team for sharing their time, knowledge, and insights into the latest technological advancements.
