Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has announced a 23-player squad for their upcoming training tour in Senegal, set to take place from April 1 to April 9, 2025. The tour, which includes two friendly matches against Senegal’s Teranga Lionesses in Dakar and a series of rigorous training sessions, is a pivotal step in the team’s preparation for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). With the continental tournament fast approaching, Head Coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has emphasized the importance of this camp to fine-tune strategies and build team cohesion.
The squad has been bolstered by the return of several experienced players, including defender Phillicity Asuako, Ernestina Abambilla, Patience Peterson-Kundok and Princess Owusu, who are back after a brief hiatus from international duty. Their inclusion adds depth and leadership to the team, which will be crucial as the Black Queens aim to make a strong impression.

The training camp in Senegal provides the Black Queens with an opportunity to fine-tune their tactics and assess their squad’s depth ahead of WAFCON. The team’s preparation for the continental event will be closely evaluated during the friendlies against Senegal, which will serve as a crucial benchmark for their readiness.
Ghana secured their place in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations for the first time since 2018 after excelling in the qualifiers under Nora Hauptle. However, the team faces a tough challenge in Group C, where they will be up against current champions South Africa, Mali, and Tanzania. The competition is scheduled to take place from July 5 to July 26, 2025.
With the WAFCON campaign looming, the Black Queens’ training tour of Senegal is a critical step in their preparation. Coach Bjorkegren will be hoping to see significant improvements in his team’s performance during the friendlies, as they strive to make a lasting impact on the continental stage.
