All occupants of a bus, made up of students and teachers of the Muslim Mission Senior High School at Beposo in the Sekyere Central district of Ashanti were able to escape when the bus on which they were traveling caught fire.
The students were returning to their school from a programme in Kumasi organized by the Ashanti Regional Secretariat of the Students Representatives’ Council, SRC for Senior High schools in the region today, Saturday 12th April, 2025.
However, on reaching Nintin, the town immediately after the Mampong Scarp, at about 7 pm, the bus caught fire but all the occupants, including the driver, managed to escape.
There was a late call to the Mampong Municipal Fire Service Command but within five minutes, a team arrived to contain the outbreak.
However, the bus and all the luggages belonging to the students could not be salvaged.
Another bus was brought in to convey the traumatized students and teachers to continue the journey to the school.
Eye witnesses told GBC News that, some of the students who sustained minor injuries during the melee to escape from the burning bus have since been treated and discharged from the Nintin Clinic and the Pope John Paul 11 Catholic Hospital at Jamasi.
Meanwhile, the Assembly Member for the Nintin Electoral Area has commended the Municipal Fire Service Command for the speedy response to his distress call.
He has however appealed to the government to resource the service to empower them to optimize their operational efficiency in such distressing times.
