Ghana’s U20 football team, popularly known as the Black Satellites, has been placed in a challenging Group A for the upcoming U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) set to take place in Ivory Coast from April 26 to May 16, 2025. The draw, which took place in Cairo, sees the Black Satellites pitted against the host nation Ivory Coast, Tanzania, and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo).

The Black Satellites are returning to the U20 AFCON for the first time since their triumphant campaign in 2021, where they lifted the trophy and secured their spot in the global U20 World Cup.

The team will be looking to build on their past successes, but the draw has presented a daunting challenge as they face off against strong competitors, particularly the hosts, who will have the advantage of home support.

In Group B, West African powerhouse Nigeria will be contending with Morocco, Egypt, and South Africa. This group is expected to deliver high-intensity matches, showcasing some of the best young talents from the continent.

Nigeria’s U20 team has historically been strong in the tournament, making them a formidable opponent for any team in their group. Meanwhile, the other nations will be equally eager to make their mark and secure qualification.

Group C features the defending champions Senegal, alongside Zambia, Kenya, and Sierra Leone. Senegal, having proven their prowess in the last edition of the tournament, will be targeting a successful title defense against a mix of competitive teams.

The dynamics of this group will be interesting to watch as the teams vie for the top spots to progress further in the tournament.
