A CCTV image has surfaced showing the leader of the group that raided the private residence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta. The incident occurred on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at his home in Cantonments, Accra. At the time of the raid, Ofori-Atta was reportedly out of the country receiving medical treatment in the United States.

Eyewitness accounts and security footage reveal that approximately 12 individuals were involved in the operation. Among them, five wore military uniforms while one wore a police uniform; the rest were dressed in plain clothes. It remains unclear whether any items were taken or what motivated this act.

In its immediate aftermath, speculation swirled that this operation might have been conducted by authorities from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). However, these claims were swiftly addressed by Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng during a press conference held on Wednesday.

“We did not authorize or conduct any such raid,” Agyebeng emphasized categorically. He further suggested that “the purported raid was staged or at best an imposter action” aimed at discrediting his office and undermining ongoing investigations into Ofori-Atta.

CCTV Footage Emerges

Just as it seemed like clarity had been provided regarding OSP’s involvement (or lack thereof), new evidence emerged to complicate matters further. CCTV footage from inside Ofori-Atta’s residence surfaced shortly after Agyebeng’s press conference. This footage allegedly identifies a well-known businessman as leading those responsible for carrying out the raid.

The individual identified is not only a prominent figure in business circles but also holds significant political ties as a recognized member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He recently faced trial but was acquitted by court proceedings.

This development challenges claims that Ofori-Atta “staged” this event to divert attention from ongoing investigations against him. Instead, it raises more questions about who orchestrated this operation and their motivations for doing so.

The emergence of this CCTV image adds another layer to an already complex situation. It underscores concerns about potential political interference or manipulation behind such incidents and highlights how they can impact public perception and trust in institutions like law enforcement agencies or special prosecutor offices.

Meanwhile, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng reiterated his commitment to pursuing ongoing investigations without interference: “We will continue our work diligently…regardless of attempts to undermine our efforts”.
