Two more persons have been arrested in connection with the ongoing case of stolen funds from the residence of former Sanitation Minister, Cecilia Dapaah.

This was revealed by the Prosecutor, DSP Emmanuel Nyamekye when the case was called today at the Circuit Court in Accra. The accused persons were absent from court, and the Prosecutor DSP Emmanuel Nyamekye, explained that the investigator who is supposed to escort them is in Tamale in the Northern Region for further investigations.

DSP Nyamekye also said the Attorney General’s office has requested to take over the prosecution of the case. A defense lawyer, Augustine Gyamfi, was unhappy with the absence of the accused persons. He questioned why the Attorney General did not make an effort to be present in court to inform the court of the decision to prosecute the case.

He also pleaded with the judge, Afia Owusua Appiah, to caution the police that bail interpretation is the mandate of the court registrar. Four accused persons were denied bail.

A fifth accused person, Sarah Adjei, who is a lactating mother was earlier granted bail but remains in custody because she has not been able to execute her bail bond. The court adjourned to August 8 with an instruction to the prosecution to bring the accused persons to court on that day.

A Defense Lawyer for one of the five accused persons Augustine Gyamfi, however doubted the quantum of money alleged to have been stolen from Madam Dapaah.
