President of the Ghana Journalists Association, GJA, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, delivering a speech at a stakeholders engagement dubbed ‘Journalist For Peaceful Discourse’ project organised by the Ghana Journalist Association and US Embassy, on Wednesday, August 28, says that the Association is ready to protect its members at all times.
According to GJA President Mr Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, the project has the potential to effectively combat the spread of misinformation, disinformation and unrealistic information in the era of social media since they serve as tools for jeopardizing information.
He emphasized that freedom of expression not only allows people to speak but also requires responsibility, highlighting the need to uphold the laws that protect free speech.
He said the GJA is committed to advancing democracy, freedom of expression, human rights, and other rights enshrined in Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, while also supporting national development and the well-being of citizens.
He urged the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies to strengthen their protective measures for the GJA and called on fellow journalists to avoid any actions that could threaten the peace and stability of Ghana’s democracy.
Additionally, he warned those who attack journalists to cease their actions, asserting that the GJA will not tolerate such behavior.
The president emphasized that the GJA is ready to protect its members at all cost. He said anyone who aims to obstruct the media’s work should reconsider their intentions.
