Members of the Responsible Small-Scale Miners Association of Ghana, have served notice to embark on a demonstration on Friday, October 11, through the principal streets of Accra, against Organized Labour’s decision to embark on a nationwide strike on Thursday, October 10, 2024.

While acknowledging that illegal mining has caused significant damage to water bodies, the group believes organized labour’s stance is not the solution to the problem, but rather, a comprehensive approach that addresses the root causes of illegal mining.

The Association in a statement signed by its General Secretary, Mark Conduah, says Organized Labour’s stance is counterproductive, politically motivated, and an attempt to shut down sources of livelihoods.

The statement therefore calls on Organized Labour to support various stakeholders to fashion out workable solutions to mitigate the threats associated with illegal mining.
