The Director General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Professor Amin Alhassan, has strongly debunked claims in the media about the sale of the National Broadcaster’s assets.
According to him, there is no such thing ongoing, but what he can confirm is the activities of encroachment on some lands that belong to GBC. He revealed this to Thelma Tackie on GTV’s Breakfast Show on October 3, 2023.
His comment comes against the backdrop of claims accusing the GBC’s current management of being involved in the sale of assets that belong to the State Broadcaster.
But the current Electronic Media CEO of the year, Prof. Alhassan, said that some parts of GBC’s land are rather consistently being encroached on, and steps are being taken to ensure the protection of such assets.
He referred to the Service Station of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation at Adjangotey having the majority of its land taken up by some Chiefs and land guards. He added that petitions have been made to the National Media Commission, the National Communications Authority, and the security services as well to see that the state properties are protected and reserved.
He further debunked claims that government controls and navigates the activities and contents of the journalistic and communication works of GBC, saying that was done before the coming into being of the 1992 Constitution. He also mentioned that the National Media Commission was established by the Constitution to do away with any form of censorship and added that the GBC is mandated to serve every successive government of the day and the Ghanaian public at large.
