The Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service, GIS, Kwame Asuah Takyi, says the service is poised to protect the territorial borders of the country, before, during, and after the December 7 polls.
However, the GIS is faced with an inadequate resource challenge that demands the effort and benevolence of the external stakeholders in mending to make it work efficiently and effectively.
He said this when the Federal Government of Germany led by its Ambassador to Ghana, Daniel Krull, presented a mobile workshop van and three thousand flashlights to the service in Accra.
The donation of the mobile workshop van and the flashlights will facilitate the work of the Ghana Immigration Service specifically in remote areas, and assist the training and capacity-building programs for the personnel of the service.
It also demonstrates the healthy relationship that exists between the government of Ghana and the Federal Government of Germany.
The Comptroller-General of GIS, Kwame Asuah Takyi charged the personnel to continue to work tirelessly to ensure that the service is well equipped to deliver better in protecting the borders of the country.
Deputy Minister for the Interior, Naana Eyiah Quansah, said the support by the German government to the Immigration Service is key in the management of border security for the common interest of the two nations while improving the operational abilities of the service.
She said the service will do all it can to maintain the equipment and ensure that the GIS delivers as expected of it.
The German Ambassador to Ghana, Daniel Krull, who made the presentation, said the Federal government of Germany’s willingness to support Ghana hinges on commitment to see Ghana become successful in defending democracy and stability in the region.
He said Germany will continue to support Ghana, in all endeavors to continue to be the beacon of hope in the Sub-Saharan region.
The mobile workshop van is a multipurpose and efficient way to perform repairs and maintenance of a collection of vehicles.
It is equipped with a range of tools that allow the servicing of both large and medium apparatus.
