The Evangelical Presbyterian Church Ghana, EPCG Women’s Ministry, has launched its 40th anniversary in Koforidua with a clarion call to the leadership to establish projects that will be beneficial to the community as well as generate ventures to support the church.

These projects include the establishment of more TVET-affiliated vocational schools, women’s hospitals, retreat and daycare centres, among others.

The Former Vice Chancellor of Koforidua Technical University and Gender Consultant, Prof. Mrs Smile Gavua Dzisi, who made the call, noted that this will instill entrepreneurial skills in the youth to help them abstain from indecent means of earning a living.

She emphasised the importance of strategic planning and accountability, which will be a credible roadmap to help the ministry achieve greater heights.

The Acting Eastern Presbytery Synod Moderator, Rev. Samuel Senanu Asieni, in his welcome address, commended the women ministry for their continuous support and mentorship towards the growth of women in the church. He had this advice for the leadership of the women’s ministry.

The Queen Mother of Ho Dome of Asogli State, Mama Atrato, who was the guest of honour for the programme, observed that social media in recent times has negatively exposed the youth, especially the ladies, to indecency, which is worrisome and a cause for concern.

She advised the youth to therefore use social media to their benefit by learning entrepreneurial skills that are uploaded on the various channels of social media to enhance their entrepreneurial skills.

Launching the anniversary, the EPCG Women Ministry Desk Officer, Rev. Christine Rose Adzotor, announced that the 40th anniversary will be celebrated at the presbytery level from November to March, with the climax at Ho in April next year, which will be followed by general elections to elect new executives at the local congregations, the presbytery, and the national level.

The women’s ministry was established in 1932 by Mrs. Louise Funke, the missionary’s wife, assisted by Mrs. R.S. Kwame and some notable women, with the focus of gathering women for bible studies and fervent prayers, called the women’s bible class. However, as the times transitioned, the name was changed to women’s fellowship, aimed at bringing women in the church together for a united front, irrespective of the group one associates herself with in the church.

Currently, it is known as the women’s ministry of the church to gather women to work in the Lord’s Vineyard.

The programme was themed “40 years of empowering and nurturing women for positive exploits”.
