In a bid to combat misinformation in the country, the Information Services Department has launched a website: www.ghanatoday.gov.gh.

The website will provide direct information from ministries, departments, and agencies about the works of government.

Speaking at the launch in Accra, Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong-Nkrumah said with media pluralism and the emergence of social media, there is a need for government agencies to provide facts about activities of government to reduce the level of misrepresentation and sometimes outright misinformation online.

A significant section of Ghanaians now relies on online and other social media platforms for information.

Unfortunately, some unscrupulous persons have used some of these portals and social media platforms to propagate falsehood and misinformation. The launch of the website comes at an opportune time, as it will provide facts about Ministries, Department, MDA, and Agencies and policies and programmes of government.

Speaking at the launch, the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, said the project forms an integral part of the reorganization and retooling to equip the Information Services Department, ISD, to serve Ghanaians better.

He called on PROs in MDAs across the country to ensure that they provide up-to-date information.

Acting Chief Information Officer of ISD, David Owusu-Amoah, said there is a need for Ghanaians to rely on the department for accurate information.

The website, ghanatoday.gov.gh with an attractive interface, has segments for politics, business, district news, speeches, and trending news.
