The Fisheries Committee for the West Central Gulf of Guinea (FCWC) has paid a courtesy call on Ghana’s Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur.

Led by General Secretary, Dr. Antoine Gaston Djihinto, the visit was a gesture of goodwill to congratulate Ghana’s Fisheries Minister Arthur on her new appointment. It also served as an opportunity to formally introduce her to the committee and its objectives.

The FCWC is a regional inter-governmental fisheries advisory body established on November 7, 2007, under the Cotonou Convention with support from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

The committee comprises six member states: Benin, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, and Togo. Its mission is to foster cooperation among member states for the sustainable management of fisheries resources. This includes ensuring social and economic benefits while preserving the marine environment in line with international standards.

This collaboration underscores Ghana’s commitment to regional cooperation in building a sustainable and prosperous fisheries sector. By working together with neighboring countries, Ghana aims to enhance the management of its fisheries resources, promote economic growth, and protect the marine ecosystem.

The visit by the FCWC highlights the importance of regional partnerships in achieving these goals and sets the stage for future collaborative efforts in the fisheries sector.
