The government of Ghana plans to open passport application centers in all 16 regions to make the process easier for citizens. Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzato Ablakwa announced this in Parliament on March 12. He said the move will reduce the pressure on the main office in Accra, which currently struggles with long waiting times and high demand.

The minister explained that while there are no plans for district-level centers, the regional offices will be enough. He added that new reforms, including 24-hour operations and courier services, will help speed up the process and deliver passports to applicants more efficiently.

At the moment, many people travel long distances to Accra just to apply for a passport. This has caused congestion, delays, and extra costs for applicants. The new plan aims to solve these problems by bringing passport services closer to the people.

This initiative is part of the government’s effort to improve public services and make travel document processing smoother for Ghanaians.
