Oheneyere Gifty Anti, a force to be reckoned with among media women, appeared on the GTV Breakfast Show to speak on her struggles, joy, and sacrifice in her 25 years of being a Broadcast Journalist.
She said 25 years ago she started at the state broadcaster, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.
She was a Floor Manager for the premier morning show, GTV’s Breakfast Show, and soon became the Host of the show, which became the first-morning show in Ghana. She doubled as a news anchor and inspired women with her fashion sense.
Oheneyere Gifty Anti said, “I am humbled. The journey was tough and I didn’t see myself getting this far, but grace found me and kept pushing me through. I started my activism at GIJ, Staging coups and demanding better working conditions for women in Ghana Broadcasting Corporation when some things were taboo.”
She added that she met a lot of opposition in her support for women to demand better. According to the seasoned, multiple award-winning broadcaster, her show “The Standpoint” was a premier show that created a space for women to share their personal stories that resonated with people and offered them a way of dealing with their predicament.
The show had started off as “a paid for” show, which she said she didn’t agree with at first but later got to understand and appreciate the fact that she could move the show around.
The programs lined up for marking her 25 years in media start with a praise and worship service on Saturday, November 3, 2022, at the Trinity Baptist Church UPSA, followed by a launch of her foundation, which is intended to put her Girl in Need foundation and Happy Feet charity under one umbrella called ‘the Gifty Anti Foundation’ and then a session with media women on challenges in the profession and how to stay relevant as a brand in broadcasting later in January next year.
She said, “Women have all it takes, and a powerful woman is not someone who is rude or arrogant. A higher position does not change a person, it’s just knowing one’s self-worth.
The Author of five inspiring books said young people, despite the hard times, should keep holding their heads high and not sell themselves short.
Her story, she said, cannot be told without the mention of GBC.
