The Principal of the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet), Felicity Ahafianyo, has stated that March 2025 is proving to be an exceptionally wet month, with rainfall expected on any given day.
In an interview on GTV Breakfast News today, March 26, 2025, Felicity Ahafianyo emphasized that “any day within March 2025 could experience rainfall” and elaborated that the southern sector of the country is currently facing sporadic downpours, with rain occurring in one or two episodes across the region.
She indicated that the rains typically arrive with strong to moderate winds, often accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

She advised the public to routinely inspect their buildings and infrastructure for any vulnerabilities, such as looseness or structural damage, and to seek expert assistance to mitigate risks before strong winds set in.

“We have a lot of energy in the atmosphere, and any weather system moving from our eastern neighbors will likely bring strong winds with it” Madam Felicity Ahafianyo explained.
She also encouraged the public to follow GMet’s social media channels for timely weather alerts, which are posted three times daily, to stay informed about potential threats in their areas.
The weather forecaster also cautioned that during active rainstorms with lightning and thunder, people should avoid going outdoors. Drivers, in particular, are urged to exercise extra caution and find a safe place to park if visibility is poor or wind speeds increase.
She advised educational institutions to closely monitor GMet forecasts, especially during the late afternoon to early evening hours, when rainstorms are most likely to occur and coincide with school dismissal times. This will help ensure students are protected from exposure to severe weather.
Her comments come following a severe weather event that occurred yesterday, March 25, 2025, in Accra.
