The Minister for the Interior, Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak, has changed the curfew hours in Binduri and surrounding areas following a deadly gun attack.

‎The new curfew now starts at 6:00 p.m. and ends at 6:00 a.m. each day. This decision was made on the advice of the Upper East Regional Security Council and took effect immediately.‎

‎A statement from the Ministry urged local chiefs, elders, youth, and residents to remain calm and work toward peace.

The statement also announced a ban on carrying weapons, including guns and knives. Men wearing smocks—which can sometimes hide weapons—are also banned. Anyone caught breaking these rules will be arrested and prosecuted.‎

‎In addition, motorbikes, tricycles, and ‘aboboyaa’ are banned for both men and women in the area. This is part of efforts to stop the violence and protect lives.‎

‎The curfew and new rules follow a violent incident near Atuba, a suburb of Binduri. Attackers killed a man and then set his body and motorcycle on fire. While the motive is still unclear, security sources believe it may be connected to the ongoing Bawku chieftaincy conflict.‎

‎The attack happened just hours after the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, visited the Bawku Naba and promised to support peace efforts in the region. He also assured that police officers would act fairly and professionally.‎

‎Meanwhile, the Mamprugu Youth Association in Bawku has strongly condemned the attack and is asking the government to increase security in Binduri. They also want the area’s MP, Mahmoud Issifu, to take urgent steps to address the growing insecurity.
