A great relief is in the offing for Ghana’s large unemployment bracket following the launch of the Ghana Report Jobs and Entrepreneurial Fair in Accra.
The fair is expected to bring captains in both the public and private sectors to tackle the country’s unemployment by offering jobs.
Chief Executive of the Ghana Report and I-Zar Group, Rasherda Saani, said the fair will give Ghanaian youth the opportunity to thrive and shine.
She said the unique aspect of the fair is the provision of training in the artisinal aspect of job creation. She is in the regard of challenging the youth to take full advantage of the fair, which begins from 19th September to October 5.
According to the Ghana Statistical Service, a survey conducted in 2022 shows that 6.60 per cent of the Ghana’s youth are unemployed. Also, a recent study shows that about 1.9 million youths, aged 15-35, are disconnected from the economy, lacking engagement in education, employment, or training.
This revelation comes from the 2023 Annual Household Income and Expenditure Survey (AHIES) report published by the Ghana Statistical Service on 16 July 2024. Several of such research studies have been carried out by individuals and organisations in a bid to lay bare the alarming figures of youth unemployment and its associated consequences. It is against this backdrop that the Ghana Report, an indigenous private firm, has taken the lead to give an opportunity for the country’s unemployment bracket to get meaningful employment.
Chief Executive of the Ghana Report, Rasheeda Saani, said the fair will not give preference to protocol, saying it will be purely based on qualifications and capabilities. Because the Youth Employment Agency considers the move by Ghana Report a laudable one, it has partnered with them in order to help address the employment situation, which, according to the YEA’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Akwesi Afriyei, poses a national security threat to the country.
He said the initiative is a laudable one that requires support from state agencies mandated to create jobs.
