Jose Mourinho, has seen his four-match suspension reduced to two following a successful appeal by his club Fenerbahce. The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) reduced the suspension to two matches and lowered the fine from 1.6 million Turkish lira (£35,000) to 558,000 Turkish lira (£12,200). This decision comes after Mourinho faced disciplinary action for his remarks following a 0-0 draw against local rivals Galatasaray.

The TFF imposed the penalties for what it described as “derogatory and offensive statements” directed at Turkish referees. Mourinho had criticized the officiating and accused Turkish football of being chaotic and disorderly, making remarks that were deemed insulting towards both the Turkish football community and all Turkish referees. The match was officiated by Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic, but the fourth official was Turkish, and Mourinho’s criticism extended to this individual during his post-match conference.
Mourinho will miss Sunday’s match against Antalyaspor and had already been sidelined for a Turkish Cup game against Gaziantep FK. Fenerbahce has expressed their intent to appeal against the penalties, signaling their support for the manager during this tense situation. The tension from the match continued on Friday when Mourinho filed a lawsuit against Galatasaray for 1,907,000 Turkish lira (approximately £41,000), accusing the club of making false claims of racial insults.
This development adds another layer to the ongoing tensions between Mourinho and Galatasaray, following the heated match and subsequent disciplinary actions. The reduction in Mourinho’s suspension and fine reflects the TFF’s reconsideration of his case, though his controversial remarks and actions remain a focal point of debate in Turkish football circles.
