President John Dramani Mahama has promised Ghanaians a refreshed approach to governance, aiming to revitalise the country’s development and progress.

In his inaugural address at the Black Star Square, President Mahama emphasised the importance of democracy and good governance, stating that governments derive their power from the people.

Quoting former US President Ronald Reagan, he stated, “governments have no power except that granted by the people.”

While acknowledging Ghana’s thriving democracy, President Mahama recognised the dissatisfaction among Ghanaians with the quality of governance.

“Our people also understand that democracy is not just a token adorned with periodic elections. They expect that if democracy is celebrated as a superior means of governance, then its outcomes must be more tangible and benefit them in their individual lives,” he said.

President Mahama also acknowledged the economic challenges facing Ghana but expressed hope for a better future.

“Today should mark the beginning of a new opportunity, an opportunity for us to make a difference in our governance and our economic management,” he stated.

As he begins his second term, President Mahama pledged to tackle pressing issues such as corruption, economic growth, and investing in key sectors like agriculture, infrastructure, and education.
