The Minority Caucus in Parliament has raised objections to the Attorney General’s decision to withdraw criminal charges against several leading members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Addressing the media in Parliament on Tuesday, February 11, Suame MP John Darko described the move as an “unprecedented” act of political favoritism.

According to Mr. Darko, the decision to discontinue these cases raises serious concerns about accountability and selective justice. He pointed out that during the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) administration from 2017 to 2025, no Attorney General appointed by President Akufo-Addo withdrew criminal cases against key NPP members.
“Ladies and gentlemen, this unprecedented act of clearing and whitewashing people of gargantuan financial and other offenses in Ghana by the newly appointed NDC AG and the John Mahama Government is very scandalous. It raises serious questions and shows that part of the so-called ‘Resetting Agenda’ of the Mahama Government is to protect itself and clothe its leading members with immunity from prosecution for financial crimes committed against the people of Ghana,” Mr. Darko stated.

The Suame MP further questioned the rationale behind the selective withdrawal of cases, demanding transparency from the Attorney General’s office.
“We, the people, need to know: of all the cases before the Ghanaian courts, why are these the only ones the NDC wants to withdraw? Is the Attorney General saying there is no responsibility for the financial offenses committed against the people for which the accused persons were standing trial?” he asked.

The Minority Caucus also accused the NDC government of engaging in discriminatory practices and called for the same leniency to be extended to all Ghanaians facing criminal prosecution.
“If you are facing any criminal prosecution, please go to the Attorney General’s office and ask for your charges to be dropped as they have done for the accused persons named here because we are all Ghanaians entitled to equal treatment under the law,” Mr. Darko said.
The cases withdrawn by Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, involving prominent NDC figures, include:
1. The Republic V. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo & Anthony Kwaku Boahen
2. The Republic V. Stephen Opuni, Seidi Agongo & Agricult Limited
3. The Republic V. Johnson Pandit Asiamah & 5 Others
4. The Republic V. Collins Dauda & 4 Others
5. The Republic V. Ernest Thompson & 3 Others
6. The Republic V. Johnson Pandit Asiamah & Others
7. The Republic V. Cassiel Ato Forson & 2 Others
