The Minority Leader in Parliament, Cassiel Ato Forson, has criticized President Akufo-Addo for not addressing the issue of unemployment in the country, despite the high unemployment rate.
Following the President’s delivery of the State of the Nation Address (SONA) on February 27, 2024, touching on various national issues, the Minority Leader in Parliament called out the President for his silence on unemployment.
“The unemployment situation in our country has reached a critical point, yet we did not hear a word from our President addressing this matter,” he stated.
He pointed out that out of a population of 33 billion, only 11.3 million people are employed, including peasant farmers.
“Two out of three Ghanaians are unemployed, meaning 30% of the youth are jobless, and about 4.5 million employable Ghanaians are outside the labor force,” he emphasized.
Additionally, he lamented that the state of the nation appears hopeless, leading ordinary Ghanaians and professionals to leave the country’s shores.
