The President of the National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG), Alfred Asiedu Adjei, has lauded the Chief Executive Officer of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, Mr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, for his outstanding contribution to sanitation improvement, local economic development, and job creation across Ghana.

The commendation came during a courtesy call by Mr Alfred Adjei and the newly elected General Secretary of NALAG, Mr. Sheriff J. Amarh, alongside Mr. Justice Senyo Tsitsia.

The visit aimed to foster stronger collaboration between the local government association and the waste management giant in support of decentralized development and improved local governance.

Zoomlion’s Transformative Role

Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a key player in the waste management sector, has over the years partnered with Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to enhance sanitation infrastructure and improve public health outcomes.

Hon. Adjei highlighted Zoomlion’s contributions as essential to the national decentralization agenda.

“As a nation, we cannot overlook the pivotal role Zoomlion has played in strengthening sanitation systems across our districts. We are here to express our appreciation and propose a new level of collaboration to empower local structures to achieve even more” Hon. Adjei stated.

Boosting Local Economies through Strategic Partnership

The NALAG President emphasized the importance of leveraging the partnership to promote local economic development.

Among the proposals discussed were initiatives to boost internally generated funds for assemblies, create employment and entrepreneurship opportunities, and build the capacity of Unit Committee Members—the grassroots foundation of local governance.

He also called for intensified public education on sanitation and waste management, particularly in underserved communities.

“Preventing diseases like cholera and malaria begins with education and proper waste practices,” he noted, adding that Zoomlion’s expertise in community outreach makes it a valuable partner in this regard.

Zoomlion CEO Reaffirms Commitment

Mr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong welcomed the delegation and expressed gratitude for the recognition. He reiterated Zoomlion’s commitment to supporting local governance structures and driving community development.

“Zoomlion believes in building from the ground up. Our partnerships with MMDAs have been instrumental to our impact. We’re ready to deepen our collaboration with NALAG to empower communities, create jobs, and advance public education on sanitation” Mr. Agyepong said.

Looking Ahead

The meeting concluded with an agreement to form a joint working group tasked with developing a roadmap for the proposed partnership. The collaboration is expected to yield training programs, targeted community sensitization campaigns, and innovative local economic initiatives tailored to assembly needs.
