The Office of the Special Prosecutor has cleared former Minister of State at the Ministry of Finance, Charles Adu Boahen of corruption and corruption related offences.

The OSP has thus directed the closure of the investigation involving Mr. Adu Boahen in respect of allegations of corruption and corruption-related offences contained in the Investigative Documentary, titled Galamsey Economy, by Tiger Eye P.1.

In a report on the investigation, the OSP says the investigation can be reopened should the circumstances and further facts dictate.

The OSP notes that Mr. Adu Boahen, at the time of the encounter, thought he was dealing with a real prospect who had an actual investment proposal, and so his conduct amounted to trading influence or influence peddling, which is closely associated with corruption.

The OSP, however, concludes that there is no criminal prohibition on influence peddling, hence its decision to close the investigations.

The OSP calls for the passage of the Corrupt Practices Act to comprehensively codify the prohibition of all forms of corruption. It also calls for the swift passage of a conduct of Public Officers Act to properly regulate the conduct of public officers.
