A fire broke out at the Job 600 building in Accra on Tuesday morning, causing fear and panic among those present.
The building serves as offices for Members of Parliament (MPs) and their research assistants, as well as housing conference rooms and offices for senior staff.
The incident occurred around 10 am, disrupting committee sittings and other parliamentary business.
According to a briefing from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Accra Regional Commander, the fire started in a storeroom on the 2nd floor of the building.
Six fire tenders were deployed to the scene, with firefighters working to extinguish the blaze.
The fire has gutted portions of the building, with the full extent of the damage yet to be determined.
In an interview with GBC Online correspondent Edzorna Mensah, a spokesperson said: “We are still on the first floor of Job 600, where over 300 staff members were operating this morning. All staff were evacuated to the chamber block for their safety. The priority now is to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to other rooms or floors. To achieve this, all systems have been shut down.”
