Police arrest three suspected killers of Momo vendors in Ashanti Region

The Ashanti Central Regional Police Commander has announced the arrest of three persons in connection with recent serial murders of MoMo venders in Kumasi.

The Police additionally stated that a fourth suspect, one Martin Amoah, is on the run and being sought after to face justice and therefore appealing to members of the public to assist in tracking him down.

The Ashanti Central Regional Police Commander, DCoP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, announced this in Kumasi at at media briefing.

The Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi has been in the news in recent days for the wrong reasons following what appeared to be a serial violent attacks on Mobile Money commonly known as MoMo vendors.

Though there have been several of such attacks, this led to the instant killing of two vendors in what appeared to be armed robbery attacks by a suspected syndicate.

The first such suspected robberies occurred on Thursday February 13, this year at Krofrom around midday.

In that incident, the robbers allegedly attacked one Patricia Nimako in her MoMo vending post, shot her to death and ran away with an undisclosed sum of money.

On the 10th of this month, another MoMo vender, Gideon Owusu Sarpong affectionately called Junior, was allegedly tracked to his residence at Kwadaso near Kumasi where he was also robbed of an undisclosed sum of money linked to his MoMo business and killed by the assailants.

The Police, in an effort to nib the situation in the bud to provide a safe atmosphere for residents to go about their lawful routine activities, tracked down the assailants and have since arrested three of the suspects in connection with the crime.

At a media briefing in Kumasi, the Ashanti Central Regional Police Commander, DCoP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, disclosed that the suspects are currently in Police custody helping with investigation pending their arraignment in court for justice to prevail.

“The arrested suspects have been identified as Charles Kwame Danso, 23, also known as ‘Kwame Charles’ or ‘Miami’, Philip Fordjuor, 29, and Samuel Addae Mensah, 42. They were arrested on 21st March, 2025 at Pankrono and Atimatim respectively”, the Commander disclosed.

DCoP Teye-Cudjoe also said that a fourth suspect in connection with the crime is now on the run and is therefore appealing to members of the public to help track him down to face justice.

“Efforts are underway to locate the fourth suspect in the person of Martin Amoah aka Augustine Amoah alias ‘Banq Macho’ who is believed to be hiding in Kumasi, Dunkwq, Diaso near Dunkwq On-Offin in the Central region”, DCoP Teye-Cudjoe announced.

The Regional Police Commander has assured residents of the region that, the Police command is working hard to ensure adequate safety and security and has therefore for calm and support for the security agency.
