Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Acting Spokesperson for President John Mahama, has emphasised that the President will not remove the Electoral Commission Chair, Jean Mensah, without following the proper procedures. In an interview on February 11, 2025, Kwakye Ofosu stressed that perceptions alone are not enough to warrant her removal.
According to Kwakye Ofosu, President Mahama is a firm believer in upholding the rule of law and will not take any actions that could be seen as arbitrary or unjust.
Kwakye Ofosu also expressed concerns about the Electoral Commission’s performance, particularly during the 2020 elections, which he claimed were conducted at the behest of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He noted that “Jean Mensah and her colleagues have not covered themselves in glory”, highlighting the need for reforms within the Electoral Commission.
The comments by Kwakye Ofosu come amid growing concerns about the impartiality of the Electoral Commission. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) in particular has been vocal about its dissatisfaction with the Commission’s handling of the recent elections.
