The President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Kwabena Dwumfour, has strongly criticized the Mahama administration over the increasing incidents of attacks on journalists.
According to Mr. Dwumfour, seven cases of journalist assaults have been recorded since the beginning of President Mahama’s tenure, a situation he described as “unprecedented.”
He expressed serious concern over the lack of accountability for those responsible, condemning the government’s inaction in addressing the issue.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, February 18, he stated, “It is deeply troubling that just over 50 days into John Mahama’s second term, we have already recorded seven cases of journalist assaults—something we have never seen before.”
The GJA President called on the government and law enforcement agencies to act swiftly in safeguarding press freedom and ensuring that journalists can perform their duties without fear of violence or intimidation.
