U.S. names delegation to attend Mahama’s inauguration in Ghana

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has announced a special delegation to represent the U.S. at the inauguration of Ghana’s President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, on January 7, 2025, in Accra.

Leading the delegation will be Shalanda D. Young, Director of the U.S. Office of Management and Budget.

Other key members of the delegation include:

Virginia E. Palmer, U.S. Ambassador to Ghana, who has strengthened ties between the two nations.

Karen Bass, Mayor of Los Angeles, known for her contributions to U.S.-Africa relations.

Frances Z. Brown, Special Assistant to President Biden and Senior Director for African Affairs at the White House National Security Council.

John Dramani Mahama emerged victorious in Ghana’s presidential election on December 7, 2024, defeating Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia. This victory marks Mahama’s return to leadership after his previous term as president from 2012 to 2017.

The presence of the U.S. delegation highlights the strong partnership between Ghana and the United States and emphasises Ghana’s respected position as a stable democracy in Africa.
