Upper East Regional Hospital phase three project inaugurated

President Akufo-Addo has inaugurated the 175-bed capacity Upper East Regional Hospital rehabilitation project phase III in Bolgatanga.

The project, funded by the Saudi Fund for Development is to provide an ultra-modern secondary referral hospital service in the Region.

Initiated in 2014, the phase three of the rehabilitation project comprised of several components. key among them which includes the construction of the maternity block, modern laboratory, staff accommodation, laundry, kitchen, mortuary, medical gas plant, solid waste management system, road network, and fence wall among others.

It also includes the procurement and installation of equipment such as CT scan, body fridge, mammography machines, beds and theatre equipment among others. These additions will significantly enhance the hospital’s capacity to provide specialized care, reduce patient wait time and improve health outcomes in the region.

Representing the Saudi Fund for Development, the General Director of Africa Operations, Mohammed Al-Shammari, maintained that the project is part of a broader aim to improve and provide universal healthcare access, ensuring that all individuals receive quality care regardless of their financial situation.

The Minster of Health, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye said the Upper East Regional Hospital Project is not just bricks and mortar but a symbol of hope and a place where lives will receive healings and future made brighter.

He commended the Saudi Fund for Development for funding the project which has become a centre of excellence with state of the art facility, describing it as progress made.

He announced that government will soon complete and inaugurates some of the Agenda 111 projects in the Upper East Region before the end of this year.

President Akufo-Addo highlighted that the hospital’s completion underscores his government’s commitment to providing modern health facilities that meet current healthcare standards in the country.

President Akufo-Addo said a total of 52 million dollars have gone into the rehabilitation works of the Regional Hospital.

The President also announced that similar hospital projects including an urology and morphology centre of excellence at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, eleven District Hospitals and a polyclinic each in the Eastern, Ashanti, Ahafo and Greater Accra Regions would be completed by the end of the year to reinforce the nation’s infrastructure.
