The Fisheries Commission’s preliminary investigations into the dead fish washed ashore on parts of Ghana’s coast indicate that 13 different species died out of stress.
In an interview on an Accra-based radio station, Dr. Peter Zedah said, “the unit couldn’t have done the headcount of the fishes rather restored to the headcount of the species”. That’s why there’s cause for an alarm.
Dr. Zedah indicated that environmental factors, diseases could be the risk factor of stress in fishes.
He further added the unit is currently running residual and biological tests on some of the fishes.
He urged the media to help educate the public against the consumption of the dead fishes.
