A twenty-thousand-cedi bounty has been offered for information leading to the arrest of the leaders of the two rival gangs police say were behind the violence at Nima on January 18, 2022.
The gang leaders have been identified as Ali Awudu alias Bombon and Ibrahim Hussein alias Kumodzi.
Addressing a news conference January 19, 2022 the Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Kwesi Ofori, said the police are working to reduce activities of the gangs.
Meanwhile, two more persons have been arrested over their alleged role in the violence. This brings to nine, the total number of suspects arrested in connection with the clashes at Nima.
Giving an update on the incident, ACP Kwesi Ofori disclosed that the other two suspects were arrested at a hideout with weapons on them. Items retrieved include a pump-action gun, security uniform, ammunition, and pistols.
In a related development, the Greater Accra Regional Police Commander Alhaji Iddi Seidu has called on the youth especially those in the Nima-Mamobi area to eschew negative behaviors and focus on building a career for themselves.
”Take your education seriously and desist from evil ways”, he stated.
His comments follow the shooting incident in the Nima area.
