MasterCard Foundation pledges $500 million to boost youth involvement in agriculture

The President of the African for Green Alliance for Africa, AGRA, Agnes Kalibata says MasterCard Foundation, a payment systems firm has pledged 500 million dollars into the scaling up of youth involvement in agriculture.

It brings to a total of one billion dollars what the foundation has committed to youth in Agriculture in Africa.

This was announced at the ongoing Alliance for Green Revolution Forum in Accra.

Mastercard’s 500 million dollars pledge is so far the sole financial commitment at this year’s Alliance For Green Revolution forum.

The firm sees opportunities in production, processing, financing, packaging & marketing  as opportunities in agriculture that should attract young people.

Dr. Agnes Kalibata was optimistic the pledge will help to realise their objectives and noted that the impact of the pledge will be measured at the country level.

The 2019 edition of the Alliance For Green Revolution forum has attracted more than 2,800 delegates, 34 high government delegation and 27 Ministers of Agriculture.

It is described as the biggest conference in helping to transform the Agriculture sector.
