Deputy Communication Minister and a Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West, George Neenyi Andah on Saturday morning involved in a fatal accident between Gomoa Buduburam and the Awutu Ofaakor bypass in the Central region.

The deputy minister was heading towards Loye, a village near Gomoa Buduburam and some towns within his jurisdiction to expedite his mandate to continue to initiate some development projects in his constituency.

Though, there was no reports of death, the Minister is said to have had a severe fracture on the upper muscles, with the driver and the body guard as well as one of the constituency executive sustaining some injuries.

The accident car

According to eye witness report, the deputy Communication Minister was heading towards Loye, a small village noted with various road curves, collided with a tipper truck with registration number GS 1780-17 ,who skidded off his lane and crashed with the minister’s Toyota Prado.

The Buduburam -Jei river stretch of road was constructed some fifteen years ago by the former president, John Agyekum Kufuor to be used as bypass road to ease vehicular traffic during the construction of the main Kasoa – Cape Coast trunk road, since then no any maintenance has been seen on that road, even though it is now widely used by motorists to connect to Swedru, Accra and the other towns.

The cause of the accidents may be linked to the poor nature of the road including serious erosion and sand winning activities which has affected most of the shoulders of the road making it a death traps for motorists.

Meanwhile, the doctors at Buduburam St. Gregory Catholic Hospital Dr. Lawrence Achiam, assisted by Dr. Bernard kwesi Boison who worked and gave the minister’s first aid before airlifted, said the minister was airlifted by the Ghana Armed Forces helicopter to the 37 military hospital due to the nature of the situation and also to receive swift medical attention.
