President Akufo-Addo cuts sod for Accra STEM Academy, 20 more in offing, to promote Science & Tech. in Ghana

President Akufo- Addo has cut the sod to kick start the construction of the Accra STEM Academy, the first of many Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics, STEM academies the government intends to build across Ghana.

The STEM initiative seeks to improve quality education and equip students with the requisite skills that will make them globally competitive.

President Akufo Addo speaking at a short ceremony in Accra said 20 more Academies, which will be devoted to training students from crèche to JHS, and another 10 for Senior High Schools would be built across the country.

”The time has come to build more human resource capacity in these fields”, President Akufo Addo said.

The Accra STEM Academy which is estimated at ₵32 million will be a four-storey with 28 classrooms,14 science laboratories, hard and soft landscaping for external works with a multi-purpose Hall and other ancillary facilities.

The Academy will be a hub for the physical, digital and biological worlds for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

President Akufo Addo said the government’s vision, ”is to build a strong human resource by repositioning the entire educational system to produce an assertive and empowered student for socio-economic development”.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum said 10 STEM Schools will be opened this year across the country.

”This initiative is a step in the right direction to unearth talents while nurturing the skills of the youth to take part in the Fourth Industrial Revolution”.

While the Accra STEM Academy is expected to be completed in two years, the other Academies are at various stages of completion.
