Government has raised concerns over what it describes as wastage in the process of evacuating its citizens from Ukraine.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong revealed that government initially disbursed $2million to the Ministry for the evacuation of Ghanaians from Ukraine.
This means a chunk of the amount is likely to go waste if the situation does not improve.
Addressing Journalists at the Kotoka International Airport, Government Spokesperson on Governance and Security, Palgrave Boakye-Danquah said the situation where Ghanaian Students in Ukraine decide not to return home after government secures plane tickets for them is worrying.
He advised the students in Ukraine who have the intention to return home as a result of the war to use the approved means in order to guarantee their safety.
“Many of the students that we have purchased tickets for, at the time of boarding decline to come home and so we are experiencing wastage”.
He said “let me encourage Ghanaians students who want to come home to use the official processes of evacuating that the government of Ghana has put in place”, so that you are not put at risk.
