UN Under-Secretary General Dr. Natalia Kanem arrives in Ghana

The UN Under-Secretary General, and Executive Director of the UNFPA, Dr. Natalia Kanem has described Ghana as a beacon of rights.

She spoke highly of the legendary Ghanaian Queen Yaa Asantewaa, saying she is an inspiration to women and men alike.

Dr. Kanem was speaking to the media at the VVIP lounge of the Kotoka International Airport after arriving for a five-day visit.

Dr. Kanem will convene a high level forum to promote the rights of People of African Descent, to be held in Accra on Friday, April 22.

She was received at the Jubilee Lounge of the Kotoka International Airport by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Thomas Mbomba, officials of the UNFPA, and traditional leaders.  

Dr. Kanem was accompanied by the Vice President of Costa Rica, Epsy Campbell Bar and other UNFPA officials.

Whilst in Ghana, she will pay courtesy calls on the President and the Vice President and visit some landmark areas in Ghana.
