Over 30 illegal wooden structures along the Korle gonno Beach stretching from the Oceanic Beach Resort to Chorkor on the old Winneba road in the Ablekuma South sub metro in Accra have been earmarked for demolition by Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).
The structures believed to be brothels used for prostitution was alleged to be rented out to criminals who attack, terrorize and rape unsuspected visitors and residents along the old Winneba road at night.
According to Head of Public Affairs at the AMA, the decision to demolish the structures follows a petition from the Chief of Korle-Gonno, Nii Tackie Owuowuo III, to the Korle District Police Station and copied to the Assembly.
He said the situation has generated some insecurity for residents, tourist, operators of beach resorts and holiday makers hence the move to embark on the demolishing exercise.
He said the Assembly would work with the police to deal with the illegal sand-winning and block manufacturing activities along the same stretch which mostly in the afternoons and at night.
