The 37 Military Hospital has received medical equipment from Sankofa Medical Charity, an American-based NGO, to enhance the facility’s capacity to provide quality health care delivery.
The items valued at $30,000 include four mechanical dialysis chairs and 1 dialysis machine. Secretary to the organisation, Dr. Al –Majid Adams, who presented the items, said Sankofa Medical Charity’s passion is to serve the underserved and marginalized communities and that they realized that the Tamale Teaching Hospital was one of the health facilities which needed the items. According to him, kidney disease has been a health issue and expensive health care in the society that needs support to facilitate treatment of patients.
“This is the first time we went to TTH, to give them 1 Dialysis machine and 4 Mechanical chairs. Komfo Anokye hospice gave them 2 dialysis machines and 10 chemical chairs worth almost $60,000 was our last target. There’s a lot of hospitals in line. Even though 37 Dialysis Unit is one the best in the nation, they still have a lot of needs and we ought to come and come and help them. Our passion is to serve the underserved in marginalized communities. My CEO, Dr. Leonard Gyebi is passionate about this and he has delegated this task to me. This equipment is worth over $30,000. But It’s not about the monetary value of this equipment. It’s about the impact on going to serve,’’ he said.
Commander for 37 Military hospitals, Brig. General N. A. Obodai, who on behalf of the hospital received the items, described the gesture as timely, adding that the equipment would enable the hospital to provide efficient health care service in the treatment of dialysis and emergency cases.
“Commander of 37 Military Hospital, Gen. N.A. Obodai. It is coming at a good time. This has come to add to the ones we have at the dialysis unit and is going to be put to good use,’’ he said.
Dr. Al –Majid Adams noted that 37 is the 3rd hospital to have received medical donations aside from the Tamale Teaching Hospital, and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi. Sankofa Medical Charity said its next focus is the Sunyani Regional Hospital.
