400 more Soldiers have been added to the 200 already deployed to remove all persons engaged in mining in water bodies in the second phase of Operation Halt.

Unlike the two hundred that were deployed last week in the first phase of the operation, the 400 men of all ranks for the new phase will be focusing on the tributaries of the Pra River which have also been significantly affected by the activities of illegal miners.

This was made known in a statement signed by the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah on Friday, May 7.

The first phase of the operation, which was ordered by President Akufo-Addo and started on April 28, 2021, led to the arrest of two Chinese nationals and the seizure and destruction of equipment which were being used for illegal mining.

The Minister, therefore, warns those involved in the illegality to stay away from mining in water bodies to avoid any action by the forces.
